Abstract
⺠Expectations for the future may motivate health behaviors in the present. ⺠Adolescents expecting to attend college exercise more and smoke less. ⺠Adolescents who expect to live to age 35 are less likely to smoke as young adults. ⺠Perceived life chances may contribute to social gradients in population health.
