Abstract
⺠Employment in French public hospitals is higher than in not-for-profit or private Hospitals. ⺠Public-hospital employment rises with local unemployment. ⺠The above relationship is stronger in left-wing municipalities, and when elections are close. ⺠Public-sector employment responds to political prerogatives.
