Abstract
In view of the empirical evidence supporting the role of inheritance of cognitive skills in the determination of economic status presented in this paper, we build a simple growth model with idiosyncratic ability modelled as a first-order Markov process. We find reasons not to expect a systematic relationship between inequality and mobility, a hypothesis we show is consistent with the existing literature.
