Training subsidies and the wage returns to continuing vocational training

► We exploit the considerable regional variation of training policies in Italy. ► One extra euro per head spent in training subsidies has a mild effect on training. ► The marginal effect of an extra week of training on monthly earnings is 1.36 percent. ► Training has higher returns in small firms. ► The cost-benefit analysis shows that the policy pays off rather well.
