Self-organized network design by link survivals and shortcuts

► We propose self-organized networks by link survival and addition of shortcuts. ► The surviving nodes are naturally concentrated on high population areas. ► By adding shortcuts, the average path length is improved as in the small world. ► The robustness is also stronger to the same level as in the optimal bimodal networks. ► Such mechanisms of survival & reinforcement are useful for future infrastructures.
