Abstract
⺠How traffic flow directionality and asymmetry affects congestion is discussed. ⺠The direction-dependant heterogeneity index of complex network is defined. ⺠A critical value of heterogeneity exists and it determines congestion transition. ⺠Controlling heterogeneity in a reasonable range can improve congestion tolerance.
