Abstract
⺠In this study, we model exponentially coupled nonuniform stochastic oscillators. ⺠3-state oscillators have a nonuniformity parameter affecting one of the transitions. ⺠Mean-field equations yield the phase diagram as coupling and nonuniformity vary. ⺠Collective oscillations are found, but only below a critical level of nonuniformity. ⺠When units become excitable, collective oscillations are not found in the model.
