Abstract
► We study influences of agents' activation and deactivation on opinion evolution. ► Agents may drop out of the discussion, or they can be motivated by active neighbors. ► The final average opinion exhibits a transition at a threshold value of dissipation. ► The system with dissipation gains a fast relaxation rate along with small clusters.
