Abstract
⺠Gumbel distributions characterise global quantities in many correlated systems. ⺠There is no direct connection with extreme value processes. ⺠Plant canopy turbulence provides a natural setting for extreme value processes. ⺠High-velocity downdrafts and updrafts make the dominant contribution to turbulence. ⺠Gumbel extreme value statistics characterise simulation data for gust speeds.
