Abstract
⺠Mitochondrial DNA obtained from ancient and modern Arctic sled dogs. ⺠Most ancient Thule-period dogs throughout the Arctic share a unique, A31, haplotype. ⺠Most modern dogs of the Eastern, but not Western, Arctic also carried this haplotype. ⺠First direct evidence that modern Eastern Arctic dogs maintain indigenous ancestry.
