Abstract
⺠The history of British inter-war suburbia has tended to ignore the role of the car. ⺠Private mobilities in suburbia were not dependant on the train. ⺠Car adoption rates in 1930s London's suburbia were high, but heterogeneous. ⺠The car provided access to a wider range of everyday destinations. ⺠Commuting to London by car was taking place by the late 1930s.
