Abstract
⺠We analysed deaths investigated by coroners in three Australian states over 7.5 yrs. ⺠We examined the link between the remoteness of the area of death and inquests. ⺠The remoteness of a death's location strongly predicted the chance that an inquest would be held. ⺠The odds of inquest were lowest for deaths in cities and highest for deaths in very remote areas.
