Some lessons learned from the first generation of REDD+ activities

► The REDD+ mechanism could address extra-sectoral drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. ► Transformational change across government agencies at different levels is required before the mechanism is fully implemented. ► A hybrid of ICDP type of rewards and performance-based PES incentives could be fast tracked to initiate REDD+ financial streams. ► REL/RL and MRV capacity building could start earlier in countries with little capacity gaps.
