Abstract
⺠Human and climate-induced nutrient variation (changes in element concentrations and ratios) lead to eutrophication and the degradation of aquatic ecosystems. ⺠The proliferation of damming modifies the nutrient balance in the aquatic environment. ⺠The challenges to scientific research and management were discussed. ⺠An integrated framework was proposed for effective nutrient management from watershed to coast. ⺠The management framework should integrate an interdisciplinary scientific approach and adaptive principles.
