Abstract
► The concept of wellbeing is already used in a wide range of public policies. ► A social concept of wellbeing is highly relevant to marine resource sustainability. ► Well-being offers a holistic approach to the assessment of social impacts of fisheries decline. ► Well-being offers new insight into fisher behaviour and motivation. ► We discuss a framework for social wellbeing, including material, relational and subjective dimensions.
