Abstract
⺠We examine CDM project allocation in Chinese provinces. ⺠Economic wealth is negatively associated with the number of CDM projects. ⺠Foreign direct investments are negatively associated with the number of CDM projects. ⺠CDM allocation is consistent with economic theories of optimal carbon abatement. ⺠The CDM holds potential for reducing uneven economic development in China.
