Abstract
⺠This empirical study employs a values-based approach to climate change adaptation. ⺠We develop values from 53 interviews in two communities in northeastern Canada. ⺠Different values shape distinct subjective, intangible effects of climate change. ⺠Values influence perception of climate variability and change and adaptive responses. ⺠Barriers to adaptation emerge from competing and conflicting values.
