Abstract
⺠We present a new theoretical framework for studying social-ecological systems (SES). ⺠Our transdisciplinary framework disentangles patterns of interdependencies in SES. ⺠We use the framework to study a rural agricultural SES in Madagascar. ⺠Mechanisms explaining the villagers' ability to preserve the forest are hypothesized.
