Abstract
⺠Resource nationalism is a powerful mobilizing frame in extractive economies. ⺠Public expectations of the benefits from natural resource rents often exceed results. ⺠The gap between imagined and material benefits fuels social protests. ⺠Regional movements frequently conflict over extraction's benefits, impacts, and distribution. ⺠Social movement demands can limit government policy options.
