Abstract
⺠Carbon rights are poorly defined and linked to project and market-based approach. ⺠Carbon rights rhetoric obscures a critical distinction between economic rent and benefits. ⺠Linking carbon rights to land tenure confuses social justice and rent-seeking. ⺠Carbon rights can be interpreted as deriving from conservation easements. ⺠Benefits sharing and land or tree tenure rights are the critical issues to address.
