Abstract
⺠In heme-based sensor proteins changes in heme ligation switch catalytic activity. ⺠Many sensors for O2, NO and CO have been recently discovered. ⺠Heme-ligand photolysis allows studying early processes by ultrafast spectroscopy. ⺠One common feature is that sensors act as “traps” for the physiological ligand.
