Abstract
⺠Results on vertebrate Mbs reveal a wide range of physiological functions. ⺠Mb is involved in O2, NO and ROS intracellular homeostasis. ⺠Mb is expressed in non-muscle tissues and may undergo O2-linked S-nitrosation. ⺠We integrate knowledge on Mb function and expression across vertebrates.
