Abstract
► β-Galactosidase from chick pea was purified 1840 fold with 12% recovery. ► It hydrolyses lactose with Km and Ea values to be 10 mM and 10.57 kcal moL−1. ► Galactose was found to be competitive inhibitor. ► It was localised in germinated seeds with X-gal activity staining. ► Sequence alignment showed high similarity with other plant β-galactosidases.
