Abstract
												⺠β-Galactosidase from chick pea was purified 1840 fold with 12% recovery. ⺠It hydrolyses lactose with Km and Ea values to be 10 mM and 10.57 kcal moLâ1. ⺠Galactose was found to be competitive inhibitor. ⺠It was localised in germinated seeds with X-gal activity staining. ⺠Sequence alignment showed high similarity with other plant β-galactosidases.
