Abstract
⺠Many cases of hepatic injury associated with the clinical use of vitamin A. ⺠Cholestin is the fermented product of rice on which red yeast (Monascus purpureus) has been grown. ⺠Cholestin used as a food preservative for maintaining taste and colour in fish and meat, and/or as functional medicine. ⺠Dietary cholestin may play a role to reduce the toxic effect of vitamin A in the liver and kidney of rats.
