Abstract
►Clitocybe alexandri extract induced cell cycle arrest in a lung cancer cell line. ► The extract induced apoptosis involving p53 and caspase-3. ► Protocatechuic, p-hydroxybenzoic and cinnamic acids were identified in the extract. ► These individual or combined compounds provided a decrease in viable cell number. ► The edible mushroom C. alexandri is a source of bioactive compounds.
