Abstract
⺠Indigenous siderophoregenic and probiotic strain Escherichia spp. (ST2) was isolated from healthy infant. ⺠Under artificial micro-aerophilic intestinal conditions, the isolate produced 2,3-dihydroxybenzoylserine which is catecholate type of siderophore. ⺠This isolate obeyed probiotic criteria according to the guideline of FAO/WHO (2002) and proved its sustenance in intestinal stressed in vitro conditions. ⺠Hence, this siderophoregenic culture may be useful in iron nutrition, but only after conducting proper animal and human trials.
