► Mineral content of investigated Croatian wines is primarily of natural origin. ► Level of Al, Be, Li and Ti in studied wines reflects regional soil geochemistry. ► Level of As in studied wines is influenced by level of As in groundwater. ► The Zn, Cd, Cr, Fe and V reflect viticulture practice and environmental pollution.
