Abstract
► Spontaneous legume plants were screened as potential sources of dietary isoflavones. ► A DNA barcoding approach permitted the identification of 90% of the samples. ► Total isoflavone average content in the studied species varied from 20 to 396 mg kg−1. ► The overall isoflavone level was related to rpoC1 phylogeny.
