Abstract
⺠Oxidative stress is considered as a key event in tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP)-induced cytotoxicity. ⺠TBHP causes mitochondrial dysfunction, loss of cellular respiration and apoptosis. ⺠Taurine normalises cellular antioxidant machineries disturbed due to TBHP toxicity. ⺠Taurine exerts protective action via PI3K/Akt by inhibiting NF-κB upregulation. ⺠Taurine may act as a potential therapeutic agent in TBHP-induced hepatic damage.
