Abstract
► The study deals with the identification of anthocyanins in mangosteen pericarp. ► A new anthocyanin, pelargonidin 3-glucoside was identified in mangosteen pericarp. ► Acid hydrolysis of this anthocyanin consisted of a single aglycone-pelargondin. ► Comparison of saponified and unsaponified fraction indicated the pigment was not acylated. ► The pigments were confirmed by HPLC, ESI-MS positive mode, UV-Vis spectra, NMR.
