Abstract
► A two step chemoenzymatic synthesis of phytosteryl caffeates was established. ► Structures of phytosteryl caffeates were confirmed by IR and HPLC-MS/MS. ► The phytosteryl caffeates showed higher antioxidant activity than their parent caffeic acid in assays employed. ► Phytosteryl caffeates may be used as alternative food antioxidant to replace the synthetic ones.
