Abstract
⺠Bran bioprocessing in wholemeal wheat bread induces colonic production of butyrate. ⺠This is higher than that of a control bread with native bran and other bread types. ⺠The increase in colonic butyrate production seems in exchange for propionate. ⺠No increment in the postprandial butyrate plasma concentration is detected in men.
