Abstract
► Nucleoids of Deinococcus radiodurans and Deinococcus deserti have been isolated. ► Comparative proteomics pointed at HU as being the main protein involved in nucleoid organization. ► Immunofluorescence microscopy confirmed that HU and DNA gyrase are key players. ► Radiotolerant Deinococcus bacteria contain a very low diversity of nucleoid-associated proteins.
