Abstract
⺠This is a study aiming to understand the effects of pathogen attack on a root vegetable system where defence related metabolites and proteome response of the plant is studied. ⺠This is not only the first time that a proteomic approach has been used to study the Mycocentrospora acerina - carrot interaction but is remarkably the first study of its kind on a root vegetable crop, and one of very few looking at the proteome of root tissues. ⺠The samples used come from a field study and follow disease development and the proteome and metabolites during post harvest storage. ⺠The organic carrots were grown in a rotation that is sustainable for farmers, and gives a comparable yield to conventional systems.
