Abstract
Binary response is clearly qualitative analytical information, which is become more and more important, as it is recognized as rapid information to solve solutions to a wide variety of problems. The metrology and the corresponding quality-assurance issues associated with this type of information are just being developed. One important part of the metrology applied to qualitative binary information concerns the reliability of the basic response involved. Traceability and “uncertainty” are the basis of the reliability of such information. This article deals with all these aspects, mainly aimed at use in routine laboratories and, hence, focused in a practical way.
