► Enhanced sintering of BaCe0.2Zr0.7Y0.1O(3 − δ) using Ni as sintering aid. ► Solubility limit of Ni in BaCe0.2Zr0.7Y(0.1-ξ)0.1 − ξNiξO(3-δ)3 − δ between 0.01 < ξ < 0.02. ► BaCe0.2Zr0.7Y(0.1-ξ)0.1 − ξNiξO(3-δ)3 − δ: pure proton conductor in reducing atmosphere for T < 600 °C. ► Presence of p-type conduction in oxidizing atmosphere. ► Determination of the hydration enthalpy.
