Abstract
⺠Metal K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy is a powerful geometric and electronic structure determination technique. ⺠Several factors affect the energy and intensity pattern of metal K-pre-edge and rising-edge regions. ⺠3d transition metals in bioinorganic sites activate O2 by forming transient metal-dioxygen intermediates. ⺠Supporting ligands play a crucial role in stabilizing electronic structure of M-O2 systems.
