Abstract
► Fe(VI) oxidizes organic compounds by either 1 − e− or 2 − e− transfer step. ► Fe(V) reacts much faster with organic compounds than does Fe(VI). ► Fe(V) oxidizes compounds mostly by a concerted 2 − e− transfer step. ► Hammett-type relationships explain the mechanism of reactions.
