A family of lanthanide-containing molecular open frameworks with high porosity: [Ln(abdc)(Habdc), nH2O]∞ with Ln = La-Eu and 8 ⩽ n ⩽ 11

► We have synthesized potentially porous lanthanide based coordination polymers. ► These compounds present large cavities (49 Å2) fill by water molecules. ► Most of the water molecules can be removed at room temperature. ► The porosity of the dehydrated compound has been estimated to more than 2000 m2 g−1. ► These compounds are obtained from low cost reagents by a green synthetic process.
