Abstract
C-Si bond cleavage in a sterically hindered aryl-alkyl-difluorosilane is effected with KOH yielding a stable silanetriol for which a crystal structure is reported. In addition, a potential mechanism explaining the selectivity observed for this hydroxodearylation is suggested.
