Abstract
▶ Trifluoromethionine is a promising lead for amebiasis. ▶ Trifluoromethionine is a probe to elucidate the biochemistry of methionine residues in proteins. ▶ Trifluoromethionine is synthesized by direct reductive trifluoromethylation of homocystine. ▶ This method is robust and can be perform at a large scale. ▶ This is the first example of reductive fluoroalkylation of disulfides under the Birch condition.
