Abstract
► Chemical sulfation of polysaccharides may result in molecules having antithrombotic effect. ► Citrus pectin (CP) is a widely available polysaccharide in nature. ► Sulfated polysaccharides based on CP have anticoagulant and antithrombotic effects. ► Sulfated polysaccharides based on CP inhibit α-thrombin in a serpin-dependent way. ► Sulfation pattern affect the anticoagulant and antithrombotic effects.
