Abstract
⺠It is the first time to functionalize α-chitin in water phase solvent homogeneously. ⺠Successful preparation of quaternized chitin is proved by various techniques. ⺠Quaternized chitin is water soluble and shows better antibacterial activity than that of chitosan.
