Abstract
► Introduction: Grafting technique has been utilized as an important technique for modifying the physical and chemical properties of natural polysaccharides. ► Experimentals: Graft copolymerization of acrylamide on to the moth bean starch backbone using microwave irradiation and optimization of various reaction parameters. Physicochemical characterization of grafted starch was done using various analytical techniques. ► Results and discussion: We synthesized acrylamide grafted moth bean starch under microwave irradiation. The grafted copolymer was characterized and the reaction parameters were also optimized. The grafted copolymer showed higher swelling as compared to native moth bean starch and it was temperature dependent.
