Abstract
⺠In this study, controlling degradation of Na-alginate was achieved by combining ionizing radiation and oxidizing agents. ⺠The addition of some additives such as potassium persulfate, ammonium persulfate or hydrogen peroxide to Na-alginate during irradiation process enhances, accelerates and reduces the dose required for its degradation. ⺠Molecular weight and structural changes of the degraded Na-alginate were determined using GPC, FTIR, UV and XRD. ⺠The end product of irradiated Na-alginate is benefit in agricultural purposes as growth promoter for zea maize plant. ⺠Irradiated Na-alginate not only increases the productivity of zea maize plant but also improves its productivity.
