Abstract
Careful selection of the shell-forming polymer always comes in the first place to provide shielding of the core materials and the loaded payloads and to limit the attack by the mononuclear phagocyte system. Poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(carboxybetaine)-coated nanoparticles have demonstrated different biofouling properties, in vivo immunotoxicity, pharmacokinetics and biodistribution profiles.186
