► Biodegradable ferromagnetic bone implants have been studied for the first time. ► The mechanical properties of iron foam were similar to those of human bone. ► Application of oxidation-iron foam had not influence on the bioactivity, obviously. ► The suggested chemical surface modification induced in vitro apatite formation.
