Abstract
► Active native and modified corn starch films with potassium sorbate were obtained. ► Developed films exhibited antimicrobial capacity against bacteria, yeast and molds. ► Active films allowed the controlled release of potassium sorbate to food surface. ► Active films were able to inhibit microbial growth, increasing food shelf life. ► Additive inclusion in the film matrix is more effective than conventional methods.
