Abstract
► Fine grain structure was achieved in AZ31 magnesium alloy by groove pressing. ► Influence of microstructure and surface roughness on surface energy and biomineralization was studied. ► Early biomineralization due to high wettability reduced the degradation rate in groove pressed samples. ► Better cell viability and adhesion due to surface micro-features induced by groove pressing were observed.
