Abstract
A series of red phosphors NaCaBO3: Eu3+ were synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction method. Their luminescence properties were characterized by means of photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, CIE chromaticity and concentration quenching. The phosphors could be effectively excited by the near ultraviolet (NUV) light (395Â nm) and emit strong red emission of Eu3+5D0â7F2 transition. The CIE chromaticity (x, y) of NaCaBO3: Eu3+ was (0.608, 0.387). The optimized Eu3+ content is found as 0.11, and the corresponding critical transfer distance is ~17Â Ã
. The energy transfer mechanism is confirmed to be a dipole-dipole interaction. Thus, this red emitting phosphor could be considered as promising red phosphors for NUV LEDs.
